For adults (Or People ageD 13+)

Next Beginner Class Starts September 8th…

Kendo is a rigorous martial art requiring exercise, coordination, and effort, so the beginner class is a great way to find out if kendo is for you. The goal of the beginner class is to teach you the basics of kendo, so that you can join the regular practice.

You will learn:

  • Etiquette

  • Basic terminology

  • How to hold the shinai (practice sword)

  • How to swing the shinai (practice sword)

  • Basic footwork

  • Basic attacking

  • Receiving strikes for a partner

We hold a new beginner class three times per year (January, April, and September), and each class lasts approximately three months. We meet once per week at the IRCO Gymnasium (10306 NE Glisan St Portland, OR 97220), and the class is currently taught by Choi-Sensei, Kendo 6th-dan.

You can register for an upcoming beginner class by going to our beginner class registration page.
